Founder / Director

After 20+ years of witnessing various project stakeholders’ struggle through the development and building approvals maze caused by the lack of understanding of the complex process, motivated David to open his own business and pioneer a new service offering, the first of its kind in Australia.

Since opening, Watt Next Management has successfully offered a distinctive range of consulting services across Australia, specialising in managing and expediting the Building, Development and Strata Certification processes.

David’s success lies within his unique forte to foresee risks and resolve issues in the application process across all asset classes due to his background as a former council / private Building Certifier (A1 unrestricted level) and Project / Development Manager for Australia’s largest residential high rise builder / developer (Meriton Apartments).

His project management experience includes the entire development cycle (design management, procurement, approvals, contract administration, delivery and handover) of large scale multi-unit high rise residential / serviced apartments up to $250 million.

In addition he has acted as an in-house Building Code of Australia specialist at Meriton Apartments and project managed upgrades and refurbishments of large commercial buildings on behalf of Blue Chip clients. He also currently shares his knowledge and passion for the industry with the next generation in his capacity as a lecturer for High Rise Construction at the University of Technology, Sydney.

 In February 2014, our company engaged David as an Approvals Consultant to assist with pre-purchase due diligence on a large scale Sydney hotel conversion into a mixed use development comprising both residential and serviced apartments, commercial and retail use.

This process involved a detailed examination of the existing approvals, building certificates, contractor’s warranties etc in place as well as an assessment of what further steps were required to obtain final occupation certification. David liaised with Council Management, Council Planners, Private Certifiers, other specialist consultants and various trades. Once committing to the purchase, we kept David on to see through the complexities and maze of approvals (Construction Certificates & Occupation Certificates) & retrospective approvals (Building Certificates) associated with the project.

David's coordination and management on our behalf with the various stakeholders including certifiers, local council and the whole design team (in particular his extensive network of professional building consultants) was invaluable. This enabled us to mitigate development risk and complete the project ahead of schedule and on budget.

Once again, thank you for walking through this long winded Building Certificate journey with us. It was close to a 3 years battle and we are glad that you are on board in the team in the past 12 months.

For those who need a DA or BC from council, I would recommend getting David to help you as the project manager. David has worked in the council before, he knows the procedures and has extensive experience in this industry. With his expertise, it saves us a lot of time and effort and the main thing is that people cannot fool us around.

DA and BC applications are very complicated to us who do not work in the industry.  David was able to summarise the steps and saved us a lot of time from doing our own research.  Also David is responsible.  He even followed up the council, the engineers and the builders during his family trip.

All the best with your future.  It will be great to see your business grow and have more people like you to help people who need help with council issues

We were served an order to demolish unauthorized works done in our property which is in a strata complex.

We weren't getting any help from council to find an alternative solution & time was of the essence. David heard of our plight & contacted us & we are so grateful he took that initiative.

He was fantastic, not only finding a solution that could save the works, but also taking in hand the whole process to achieve it.
